Mobile Phone Marketing

Mobile phone marketing is touted as the next big thing in marketing, and the marketers are keenly watching the segment of cell phone users. Staunch supporters of mobile phone marketing have one big reason to support the form of advertising over other traditional means like newspapers.

Everyday advertisers put advertisements on televisions, radio, emails and snail mails, billboards newspapers and banners. However, most people who are the targets of such advertisements rarely remember or even note such advertisements despite all the troubles that advertisers undergo to put them out there.

This usually occurs because people have the choice to skip the adverts when they are transmitted through such means. However, promotions made through messages sent over the phone never go unnoticed. Phone users check every text message received in their phones, and respond. People are always in possession of their phones either to make calls, text or carry out a lot of other functions through their phones. Advertisers have learnt that an advertisement in the mobile phones is more likely to trigger a response than any other means of advertising.

Mobile phone marketing is believed and expected to be more successful than all other means of advertising and this is because of several reasons or advantages of cell phone marketing.

One reason is that the mobile phone is always in the possession of the user. People hardly leave their mobile phones unattended and are even likely to carry them to the bathroom. This is a major advantage, as other modes of advertisement, for example, via television and newspapers and other print media always run the risk of viewers jumping channels or skimming through newspapers. Mobile phones also have a variety of advertisement forms. For example, one can send adverts in the form of videos, graphics, pictures, and banner advertisements to attract the phone users.

The advertisements can also get personal. Phone users have opt-in services where one can opt for their favorite messages and restrict only those to reach their inbox. For example, one can subscribe to be notified the results of games involving their favorite team and schedule of those matches. Mobile phone messages can, therefore, be tailored to suit specific cell phone users who are more likely to respond when they receive such adverts.

Mobile phone adverts though small, are effective. Big companies sponsor lots of services offered by mobile phone service providers and usually create adverts on banners for such sponsors. The advertisement banners pop up when a user is surfing with their phones, which although might be considered as a nuisance by some phone users, it gets the message across.

Another possibility with mobile phones is area based advertising. With the technology of GPS, one can track cell phone users and send appropriate messages to them depending on their location, although this type of mobile phone advertising has not been implemented in large scale.

Finally, advertising via mobile phones is also popular due to its wide spread reach. This is because there are billions of mobile phone users around the globe, which means this form of advertising is only bound to get more popular.
